The city of Columbus is grappling with the loss of 13-year-old Kamarion Woody, who succumbed to injuries from a shooting in the southeast of the city. According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were alerted to a shooting at around 4:10 p.m. on Thursday and discovered the injured boy on the 4500 block of Monmouth Court. WBNS reports that Kamarion was then transported to Mount Carmel East in a critical state.

Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Kamarion's condition worsened and he was pronounced dead in the early hours yesterday. NBC4i indicated that law enforcement is treating the location of the incident as a crime scene, with a firearm purportedly from the shooting having been recovered. Investigations are being supplemented by interviews with several people in the vicinity and the analysis of video surveillance footage from the area.

The tragic event came amid another violent outbreak in the city, as within hours, a separate shooting on the southwest side left a 16-year-old boy in critical condition. The police have said that the two shootings are not related. Yet, no suspect information has been released concerning Woody’s shooting. The Columbus Police are appealing to the public for any information, urging individuals to reach out to the Columbus Police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, as indicated by The Columbus Dispatch.

The investigation into the circumstances that led to this tragedy is ongoing.
