According to a statement from the Yarmouth Fire Department, the emergency call came at 01:49 am from a neighbor who noticed smoke and the dire scent of burning materials, prompting fears for an adult reportedly still inside the home.
In a race against time and flames, the Yarmouth Fire crews arrived on the scene within minutes, confronting smoke pouring from the structure's back end. This sight mandated a 'working fire assignment,' calling for backup from off-duty personnel and mutual aid from surrounding towns, including Hyannis and Dennis. An ambulance from Brewster also arrived to aid. The coordinated effort led to the discovery of a victim in a bedroom on the ground floor. The victim, who was quickly rescued and treated on-site by a Yarmouth ambulance crew, was subsequently transported to Cape Cod Hospital in critical condition. Another individual, who managed to escape through a window, was also treated and hospitalized by a Brewster ambulance.
