Richard Perkins, a former U.S. Army service member who was convicted of serious crimes, including rape and assault, was recently apprehended in Tennessee for a parole violation. The U.S. Marshals took Perkins into custody on Wednesday, confirming his capture without incident, as reported by the U.S. Marshals. Perkins, 56, had allegedly breached the terms of his supervised release set following his sentence at Fort Leavenworth.
Perkins's parole violation was suspected by his U.S. Probation Officer, prompting an arrest warrant and the subsequent involvement of the U.S. Marshals Service Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF). The Task Force, a collaboration of deputy marshals and various law enforcement from Tennessee traced him to a location in Jackson known as the Daybreak Suites. The TRVFTF, which had been successful in apprehending over 2,600 violent offenders and sexual predators since 2021, added Perkins to a list of secured fugitives.
This recent arrest occurred in a nondescript hotel on Highway 45 By-Pass in Jackson, revealing not only the persistence of law enforcement but the unending chase for justice playing out in everyday America. With a history of serious crimes and an obligation to adhere to the law's strictures post-confinement, Perkins stands as a stark reminder of the challenges in both the legal system's administering of justice and the reintegration of convicted individuals into society.
The TRVFTF, whose primary members hail from the Shelby, Fayette, and Tipton County Sheriff's Departments, along with Memphis and Jackson Police Officers, Tennessee Department of Correction Special Agents, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, coordinated the operation leading to Perkins's capture.
