Residents across Southern California can expect a continuation of the cooling trend today, leading into a slightly warmer weekend, reports the National Weather Service San Diego. Today's highs might feel a few degrees cooler along the coast than Thursday's, with San Diego County experiencing lower to mid-70s and Orange County seeing similar temperatures. The inland valleys will be in the 80s, while higher elevations from 4500 to 7000 feet in the mountains can expect mid-60s to upper 70s.

Southwest-to-west winds will sweep through the mountains and deserts this afternoon and evening, hitting gusts of 30 to 40 mph and even stronger gusts ranging from 45 to 55 mph in the northern Coachella Valley below the San Gorgonio Pass. Meanwhile, urban dwellers and beachgoers can anticipate slightly cooler weather on Saturday, with inland temperatures dropping as much as 10 to 15 degrees below average, especially for the mountains and high desert areas.

According to the Area Forecast Discussion, Sunday is becoming warmer, with coastal temperatures hitting the lower to mid-70s and inland regions experiencing 80s to around 90 degrees. The Inland Empire can expect temperatures in the 80s and lower 90s, while the lower deserts may see highs from the upper 90s to 103.

A warming trend is on the horizon beginning Sunday and is expected to continue through Tuesday. "The marine layer will become shallower for Sunday into next week," the National Weather Service states. Some monsoonal moisture could return for the latter half of next week, with Skywarn spotters keeping an eye on potentially significant weather conditions. As for the marine conditions, northwest winds may reach up to 20 knots in the outer waters this afternoon; however, no hazardous marine conditions are anticipated through Tuesday.
