Residents and commuters around 121st Avenue can anticipate the arrival of a new bike lane by the beginning of September, aimed at enhancing safety for both pedestrians and cyclists in the area. Stretching from Unity Street to Foley Boulevard, this bike lane is part of a larger demonstration project near Sand Creek Elementary. It's designed to bring some much-needed changes to the current road layout.
New lane striping will be noticeable along the avenue, flanked by painted bump-outs and medians that include flexible posts. Despite the adjustments, a parking lane will remain accessible on both sides of the street. This project not only shows the city’s commitment to active transportation but also provides a vivid example of the infrastructural changes we might see shortly.
According to the City of Coon Rapids Minnesota's Facebook page, this initiative is part of the City's Active Transportation Plan, which is still in development stages.
