Thanks to a freshly launched interactive website, searching for affordable housing in the County just got a little easier. The online platform was announced to help individuals and families quickly locate County-funded housing options through an accessible mapping tool.

The County-Restricted Affordable Housing Map is designed for housing hunters to search effortlessly for available and in-progress developments. It features a range of filters that allow users to search based on their specific needs, such as income limits or demographics, including veterans, older adults, and transitional-age youth. The website, featured at the County of San Diego, provides detailed descriptions for each property, reinforcing its commitment to addressing its regional housing crisis.

Residents looking for affordable housing can review various aspects of each development, including unit size and the number of bedrooms, and can directly contact property developers or operators. Direct links to developer websites and pertinent contact details aim to streamline the application process for prospective tenants. Additionally, many listings offer links to join waiting lists, enhancing user engagement with real-time housing opportunities.

"We are excited to make this new interactive tool available to county residents looking for housing," David Estrella, County Housing and Community Development Services Director, said, as per the County of San Diego. This development echoes the objectives of the County’s Housing Blueprint, which aims to simplify the search for affordable housing.

Since launching their affordable housing initiative in 2017, the County has invested a significant $310 million. These funds have largely originated from sources like excess land sales, the Innovative Housing Trust Fund, and various state, federal, and local grants. Such investments have so far resulted in the completion of over 2,100 housing units, with an additional 3,300 units currently under construction, promising to alleviate some of the housing market pressures county residents face.
