In a nod to expansion and collaboration, Crux Climbing Center—familiar to many Austin climbers—is broadening its geographic footprint with two local food and drink establishments to create a multifaceted venue in Pflugerville. According to a KXAN report, Spicy Boys Fried Chicken and Spokesman Coffee are joining forces with Crux to introduce respective flavors and brews to the climbing community outside of their usual Austin turf.
In an anticipated early fall, the new facility is slated to open at 18817 N. Heatherwilde Blvd. Building 3. Excited for this venture, these establishments come equipped with their signature offerings; Spicy Boys brings its Asian twist on crispy chicken, while Spokesman is roasting up craft coffee that includes new offerings—though what exactly these may be hasn't been disclosed. According to a statement obtained by CultureMap Austin, this expansion represents a first for each business in stepping out from the heart of Austin.
The climbing gym market in Austin is noted not just for its facilities but as a community hub, and the addition of beloved local food and drink options looks set to complement the climbing experience, making it more than just physical activity. "Crux was founded by local Austin climbers and it's more than just a gym — it's a community hub," Kevin Goradia, Crux Climbing Center co-founder, told CultureMap Austin.
While climbers gear up for invigorating sessions on the 55-foot climbing walls, attendees will simultaneously have their taste buds enticed. The unfussy and irreverent Spicy Boys and the next-door neighbor to Crux, Spokesman Coffee, are expected to draw their clientele into the fold. As noted by a press release mentioned by KXAN, there is clear enthusiasm among the partners to combine their strengths in creating a new dynamic epicenter in Pflugerville, still seeking a third culinary partner to add to the mix.
The Crux Climbing Center continues to foster its sense of community with these integrative expansions, hinting at being more than a place for physical fitness but also a locale for social gatherings and nourishment. For climbers and their guests, the new spots by Spicy Boys and Spokesman, situated in the courtyard, promise a spot to "kick back and grab some tasty local grub and coffee before or after their climbs," as observed in Kevin Goradia's statement in a CultureMap Austin coverage.
Fitness enthusiasts in the area and foodies alike can stay updated on the progress and impending grand opening of the Pflugerville location by keeping an eye on the Crux Climbing Center's website for more information.
