Violence has once again marred the streets of Chicago, with a series of shootings this weekend resulting in multiple casualties. According to Chicago police, early Sunday morning saw two separate incidents on the city's South Side that left one person dead and eight others wounded, as reported by Chicago Tribune.
The first reported incident took place in Chinatown around 3 a.m. where a confrontation between two groups of men escalated to gunfire outside Lawrence's Fish and Shrimp on South Canal Street. One 39-year-old man lost his life, and three others endured various gunshot wounds. A 34-year-old and a 21-year-old were able to transport themselves to John H. Stroger Hospital, the former in fair condition with a leg injury, and the latter in good condition after being shot in the calf. Additionally, a 27-year-old man presented himself at the same hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, according to the Chicago Tribune.
A subsequent shooting occurred approximately two hours later in the Washington Park neighborhood, where five men, aged between 23 and 24, arrived at the University of Chicago Medical Center bearing gunshot wounds. They were reported to be in good condition; however, none were cooperating with police officers at the time. The investigations for both incidents remain open with Area 1 detectives on the case and no suspects in custody, as per the Chicago Tribune.
Adding to the weekend's toll, two teenagers were fatally shot in a drive-by incident in the Back of the Yards on Saturday evening. The victims, aged 15 and 17, were near a residence when they were attacked by someone in a passing vehicle. Both teens were taken to the hospital but were later pronounced dead, as detailed by WGNTV.com.
