The Denver Broncos are digging into the future, with shovels hitting the dirt this Thursday for their new $175-million training facility in Englewood, they're stepping up their game both on and off the field. According to KDVR, the fresh digs are replacing the team's 30-year-old stomping grounds and ramping up the square footage by a robust 30 percent, while also tacking on an enlarged locker room, state-of-the-art sports performance areas, and contemporary meeting spaces. The Broncos management initially said this project was set to start just as preseason winded down, so with the September games almost here, they are launching this two-year endeavor scheduled to be in the end zone by 2026.
It's not just the Broncos looking to modernize, over at the PNC Arena, they're shelling out a cool $300 million to update and repurpose spaces to better serve the Wolfpack and Hurricanes, as reported by Sports Business Journal, as aligning with the burgeoning demands of 2024. The arena envisions a revamp that encompasses tech enhancements and spatial reconfigurations to keep up with the changing times and deliver a top-notch experience for fans and players alike.
The question of where Broncos' fans will roost during the 2025 training camp amidst the ongoing construction is up in the air, with team vice president of strategic initiatives Brittany Bowlen hinting at temporary stands in the parking lot of the current team lobby, though it means squeezing in a smaller crowd to cheer during practice days, as obtained by 9NEWS, hinting at adaptability in fan experience during the transition period.
In a more long-term vision, the Walton-Penner group, the new owners making big plays with their substantial financial commitment to the Broncos, are mum on whether a new stadium is part of the team's play, with owner Greg Penner stating, "We continue to invest in the current stadium and we want that to be a great experience for our fans, we made some really nice improvements this offseason," as per 9NEWS, however when probed about a new stadium, Penner offered, "No update on the future stadium, we continue to look at different options, including the current site, it’s a complex decision and we want to get it right, we’re going to take our time and at some point we’ll be excited to announce something."
