A Detroit man, identified as 45-year-old Quiyemabi Summerlin, has been sentenced to 17.5 years in prison for crimes that capitalized on the vulnerabilities of drug-addicted women, compelling them into commercial sex acts through manipulation and violence, ClickOnDetroit reports.
According to the same source, Summerlin lured the women into his basement with false promises, where he then supplied them with heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine. He not only coerced them into performing commercial sex acts but was also accused of raping several victims. Officials alleged that Summerlin used violence to control his victims. He admitted guilt to trafficking three victims, while the FBI uncovered evidence of at least 25 women who fell prey to his scheme.
According to U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison, the gravity of Summerlin's actions is laid bare, "This defendant treated his victims like commodities," she claimed as detailed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Eastern Michigan, "He targeted vulnerable women and exploited them for his own profit." Special Agent in Charge Cheyvoryea Gibson from FBI Detroit emphasized that acts of sex trafficking and coercion will be rigorously probed by the FBI's Southeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes (SEMTEC) Task Force.
