Massachusetts Avenue in Dorchester escalated when a state trooper discovered a defaced firearm in a vehicle. A Jeep Compass driven by DUWAYNE CORBETT, 44, of Stoughton, was stopped last Monday at approximately 2 p.m. by Trooper Jeffrey Lang of the Troop H Community Action Team for having window tint that appeared to be below the legal 35% visible light transmission threshold, according to a recent report by MSP News.
The encounter led to an arrest after Trooper Lang noticed the smell of marijuana and spotted both a marijuana blunt and loose marijuana near the center console. Lang further investigated a bag behind the driver, containing a Glock 9mm handgun with a red dot sight, a 16-round magazine, and its serial number purposefully obliterated. Lang then ascertained that CORBETT was without a firearm license—a discovery that led to his immediate arrest.
A subsequent check with a tint meter by Trooper Lang showed that the Jeep's front windows allowed only 11% of light to pass through, significantly less than the legally permitted amount. Post-arrest, the Jeep was handed over to a licensed individual to remove it from the scene.
CORBETT is now facing multiple charges, including unlicensed possession of a firearm, firearm violation with three prior violent/drug crimes, receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without FID, and a window tint violation. He was arraigned in Roxbury District Court, MSP News reported.
