Early Friday morning, a structure fire demanded the attention of the Duluth Fire Department at the intersection of E Palm Street and S Blackman Avenue. Upon arrival shortly after 10:01 am, firefighters encountered a single-family home ablaze, the fire originating from the basement and aggressively ascending through the house, according to an official statement from the department.
The severity of the fire's grip on the structure compelled firefighting crews to take up a defensive approach as they battled the flames, which quickly spread to the attic Poised with urgency, teams from 7 Engine and 1 Engine vigorously laid out attack lines, while another team secured a water source from a nearby hydrant, as per the Duluth Fire Department. Minnesota Power jumped in, too, arriving on the scene to cut electricity in a bid to bolster safety and control.
Despite the pandemonium, there were no injuries reported, and the fire is currently under investigation by the Duluth Fire Marshal’s office, a harrowing reminder of the precipices we often stand on, unknowingly. In acknowledgment of collaborative efforts, the Duluth Fire Department extended its gratitude to the Duluth Police Department, Minnesota Power, and Saint Louis County 911 for their critical support during the fiery ordeal.
