An early morning tragedy unfolded in Manor on Wednesday, as a two-vehicle collision claimed the life of a 56-year-old man. The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 290 near Greenbury Drive, a fact confirmed by the Manor Police Department. KXAN reports that authorities were dispatched to the "major collision" just before 2:30 a.m., where they found two vehicles had collided, resulting in one fatality and one injury.
According to information obtained from the CBS Austin, the deceased, driving a passenger vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene. The other involved party, a 22-year-old man operating a sprinter van, was transported to a hospital to immediately receive treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries. The westbound lanes of Hwy 290, along with Greenbury Drive, were subsequently shut down for several hours following the incident.
Investigative efforts by the Manor Police are ongoing, and at this moment, there is no suspicion of alcohol being a factor in the crash. CBS Austin highlights that the department's Victim Service Unit is in the process of contacting the next of kin of the man who perished in this unfortunate event.
