A deadly crash disrupted the predawn silence on Route 32 in Columbia, leading to hours of road closure and a police investigation. According to Howard County, an incident involving two vehicles claimed the life of a woman early this morning.
The collision, which happened around 2:20 a.m., involved a 2013 Ford Explorer that for reasons yet to be determined by the authorities, initially hit the guard rail and then careered across the westbound lanes to smash into the concrete median. Following this, a 2023 Honda HR-V collided with the stationary Explorer. The drivers of the Honda, including a passenger, emerged unscathed from the chaos.
Tragically, the female driver of the Explorer did not survive the ordeal. After being rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, she was pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. The thoroughfare was blocked off to traffic from I-95 for about three hours while emergency services and law enforcement addressed the scene.
