Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office successfully apprehended a suspect linked to a high-dollar jewelry theft last week. On August 22, while off-duty yet engaged in a security capacity at Cielo Vista Mall, they were alerted by store employees about a man suspected of earlier thefts. This individual was reportedly seen at a local jewelry store within the mall, identified as the same person who had purloined more than $9,000 worth of adornments that day, as per El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
The deputies, swiftly acting on the tip-off, conducted a manhunt for the accused. The same clothes worn from a theft committed earlier, Adan Gutierrez, a 40-year-old male subject, was subsequently located and detained by deputies as he attempted to exit the vicinity. His unsuccessful attempt to blend into the busy throngs of shoppers marked the end of his short-lived escape.
Upon his detention, a further investigation led to the discovery of not just the stolen jewels on Gutierrez's person but also the confirmation of his attire matching the description from the previous thefts. With evidence in hand and suspect in tow, the deputies then transferred custody of Gutierrez to the El Paso Police Department detectives, who will see the prosecution of the case forth.
