An elderly woman has died following an incident at the Inskip Pool in Knoxville, where she was found in distress and subsequently taken to the hospital. According to a report from WVLT, Knoxville Police Department (KPD) said the 71-year-old victim was discovered in potential drowning circumstances on Aug. 22. A KPD communications manager stated that an officer, who was already in the vicinity, reacted to the situation at around 6:30 p.m., after hearing voices coming from the pool area.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officer found that lifeguards from the Inskip Pool were already providing CPR to the woman. Further details from WATE added that the lifeguards had recognized the woman was in distress in the water and had promptly initiated rescue efforts. The woman, a client of the Sertoma Center, which had organized a group outing to the pool, was still breathing when the ambulance arrived, but unfortunately later succumbed to her complications at the University of Tennessee Medical Center that evening.

Witnesses reported seeing the woman struggle in the water, prompting the immediate action of the lifeguards. KPD highlighted that the death seemed to be accidental. According to WATE, the lifeguards "recognized the woman was in the water and in distress and immediately entered the pool to perform a rescue," the city of Knoxville indicated, emphasizing the quick response of the lifeguards to the emergency.

WBIR reported that an investigation into the incident by the KPD is underway, though the events leading up to the woman's death have been described as "by all appearances, accidental in nature." The involvement of the police, fire department, and AMR personnel in the rescue attempt was significant, with the officer and lifeguards engaging in life-saving measures before medical teams took over the care of the victim, who unfortunately, passed away later in hospital care.
