In a notable consolidation of business and a nod to roots, the engineering titan Chicago Bridge & Iron, known more colloquially as CB&I, is slated to make its return to The Woodlands, an area it departed from in 2018. The move, which signals a significant public vote of confidence in the township's business-friendly environment and quality of residential life, will bring more than 150 of its 4,000 global employees into a newly designed office space within Hughes Landing, a bustling mixed-use development.
Despite being acquired by McDermott International six years earlier, a storied past binds CB&I with The Woodlands, with the company planting its flag there from 2001 until the move, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
The relocation is not just about operational logistics but also about tapping into a well-established community where many of CB&I's employees reside. According to Hello Woodlands, this move reflects the company's ongoing commitment to enriching local ties and offering employees a vibrant mix of work and play amenities.
Jim Carman, President of the Houston Region at Howard Hughes stated, “Companies relocating to The Woodlands are a gratifying testimony to our commitment to creating a sustainable and business-friendly environment, complemented by world-class amenities and nature.” His remarks reflected on the quality of life touted as central to the company's decision. Located conveniently near I-45, Hughes Landing also provides CB&I with strategic proximity to critical client networks, as valuable noted by Hughes Landing's carefully curated mix of fitness, dining, and recreational offerings, Hello Woodlands reported.
In a show of affirmation, Mark Butts, CB&I's Senior Vice President stated "We value our partnership with Howard Hughes, who have helped us design a wonderful office space where our team can truly enjoy working and collaborating with colleagues," as Houston Chronicle quotes him. This sentiment was echoed in the Woodlands Township Director, Brad Bailey, who highlighted CB&I's revered great legacy in the oil & gas industry before he remarks on the hometown reintegration.
Alongside CB&I's corporate realignment, The Woodlands has been witnessing other growth indicators. Earlier mentions by the Houston Chronicle include the launch of The Ritz-Carlton Residences project and the multimillion-dollar refresh of Grogan’s Mill Village Center, signaling a broader upswing in business and residential investments in the township.
