A Friday morning in San Antonio’s Northwest Side delivered an unusual sight for residents when a horse was found trotting through the neighborhood. According to a KTSA report, the Prue Road area, where such an event is not entirely unheard of in Texas, saw neighbors puzzled by the clip-clop of hooves on pavement.
Not initially aware of the equine escapee, one resident, while out walking, stumbled upon something unexpected—horse droppings in the street. KENS 5 shared that this confusion quickly turned to concern as a video, provided by local resident Debbie Schulz, captured the wandering animal. "You want me to give him a carrot or something?" asked one neighbor in the recording, only to receive a "No, no" from another, reflecting a moment of community quandary caught among the day's routine.
Construction work had temporarily left gates to the neighborhood open, allowing the horse, which had escaped from a nearby subdivision called Oakland Estates around 7 a.m., to make its way into the area. It roamed the neighborhood, staying obediently to the right side of the road, an odd reflection of order amid the unexpected freedoms granted by an open gate—an unintended consequence of roadwork progress.
It wasn't long before authorities were summoned to the scene. "They called for help and police were soon on the scene along with the horse’s owner," as reported by KTSA, indicating the quick response to the trotting visitor. The area's temporary openness, meant to facilitate construction, had inadvertently invited this curious guest. The owner, with the aid of a trailer, soon took the horse back to its residence, resolving the morning's oddity.
In the end, the horse was safely returned, but the event served as a mild reminder of the unforeseen twists that roadwork can introduce into the daily lives of urban dwellers, and the fleeting encounters with nature that can ensue. "In the video, the horse appears to stay on the right side of the road, obeying traffic laws," a neighbor told KENS 5.
