
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on State Road 44 in Lake County early Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The fatal incident took place approximately at 3:48 a.m. near the intersection of S.R. 44 and Lakeview Drive. According to WESH, the victim was a 32-year-old man from Eustis, who was attempting to cross the westbound travel lane when he was hit by an oncoming 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan.
The driver, a 43-year-old woman from DeLand, was unharmed and stayed at the scene following the crash. The pedestrian, who was not using a marked crosswalk, was said to have entered the SUV's direct path before the impact. The Florida Highway Patrol has yet to conclude its investigation into the incident, as reported by ClickOrlando.
It was highlighted that there are no marked crosswalks in the vicinity where the crash occurred. The area is known to have a 24-hour gas station and convenience store nearby, potentially adding to foot traffic at all hours, according to WESH.
