A devastating collision early this morning on the I-69 Eastex Freeway involving a heavy truck and a white sedan has resulted in at least one fatality. FOX 26 Houston reports that the crash occurred before FM-525 and Aldine Bender, causing significant traffic disruptions in northeast Houston as all mainlines were closed for investigative and cleanup operations.
Assistant Chief Tommy Diaz confirmed the severity of the accident and the resultant congestion, with Houston TranStar reporting the incident just after 5 a.m. In the aftermath, the highway was inaccessible for nearly five hours, with alternative routes suggested for drivers. Traffic was funneled towards Homestead or the Hardy Toll Road to alleviate the standstill that choked the early rush.
It wasn't until approximately 9:48 a.m. that the lanes were finally cleared and reopened to the public. ABC13 provided a live feed of the situation as the scene unfolded, capturing the haunting image of the white sedan after the collision.
While the identity of the deceased has not been released, authorities are in the process of investigating the complete circumstances surrounding the crash. Drivers in the area were advised to exercise caution and patience as the morning's events unfolded, with ABC13 offering real-time traffic data and alerts through their mobile app, guiding commuters around the heavy congestion.
