A tragic incident unfolded in the Steele Creek Division where a motor vehicle crash resulted in one fatality, as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Major Crash Investigation Unit. On the early morning of Tuesday, August 20, at around 3:30 a.m., a Kia Sorento collided with a Freightliner truck at the intersection of Westinghouse Boulevard and Granite Street, leaving the driver of the Kia, Renard Adams, 34, with serious injuries that proved fatal, according to official statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded swiftly to the emergency, but despite their efforts Adams was pronounced dead at the scene, experts from the Major Crash Investigation Unit and the DWI Task Force were also called to conduct a thorough investigation into the unfortunate event. Meanwhile, members of Crime Scene Search attended to meticulously gather physical evidence in the hopes of piecing together the moments that led to the tragedy.
The initial findings seem to suggest that the Freightliner, operated by 64-year-old Andrew Sansberry Jr., was making a left turn when it was struck by Adams' Kia Sorento. Sansberry emerged unscathed from the incident, with damage reported only to the right cargo bed of the truck he was driving. The CMPD has yet to conclude its investigation, and further details will be revealed in due course as they work to understand the circumstances surrounding the collision.
