
Five individuals were injured during an incident on Friday night when a stolen vehicle crashed into an Edison Park business establishment on Chicago's Northwest Side. The vehicle, driven at dangerous speeds by a 21-year-old man whose name was later identified as Lejuan Hamblin, ultimately lost control and resulted in a collision at the 7600 Block of West Touhy Avenue, around 10:35 p.m., as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
According to the CBS News report, after the crash, Hamblin was taken to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition due to spine and leg injuries. The other four individuals who had been in the stolen car with him were also hospitalized, though for minor injuries.
Authorities responding to the scene discovered a handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine, a silencer, and a laser, as per CBS News. Following the incident, Hamblin now faces charges, which include possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful use of a weapon. The three passengers present in the stolen car at the time of the accident have been charged with misdemeanors, related to their involvement.
One eyewitness, Edward Thomas, recounted the harrowing moment the speeding car collided with his vehicle near Milwaukee and Elston, stating to CBS News, "Crashed into my car on Milwaukee and Elston. He's driving like a maniac, turned off his lights, and crashes into these innocent people."
