
Five juveniles have been taken into custody following a carjacking incident in Northwest, D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department reported a coordinated effort involving the Real Time Crime Center and the Robbery Suppression Unit, which effectively led to the quick apprehension of the suspects and recovery of stolen items. The crime occurred on Friday, August 9, 2024, with the suspects assaulting the victims and absconding in their vehicle after securing a phone and keys.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department's statement, following the incident, which took place around 9:05 p.m. in the 200 block of P Street, Northwest, the Real Time Crime Center quickly joined forces with Falcon. They were able to soon track down the carjacked vehicle. The MPS’s ability to swiftly coordinate was critical in their successful effort to not only locate but also recover the vehicle and return the stolen property to the rightful owners.
The responding officers from DC Fire and EMS treated the victims for minor injuries at the scene. Subsequently, five young individuals—two 17-year-old males, one 17-year-old female, a 16-year-old male, and a 14-year-old male—were arrested. They hail from different locations across D.C. and Hyattsville, MD.
Each of the juveniles is facing charges that include Unarmed Carjacking, Robbery, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle-Crime of Violence, and Receiving Stolen Property. The Metropolitan Police Department has not only highlighted the timely response of its units but also the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing and resolving incidents of this nature, as reflected in the swift resolution of this case.
