A former Jeffco Public Schools employee, who also served as a pastor, faces charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a high school student, as local authorities suspect there might be additional victims. Rubel "Tim" Martinez, a one-time campus security officer and after-school club leader, was arrested on allegations of a pattern of abuse spanning from 2014 to 2016 with a former Lakewood High School student.
According to Denver7, Martinez was charged last Tuesday with sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust after the allegations surfaced. Martinez, who worked for the school district from 2006 to 2022, was taken into custody and is currently held on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
The charge, filed by the First Judicial Attorney's Office, points to Martinez's tenure as a Campus Security Officer at Jefferson High School and Lakewood High School. Beyond his security role, Martinez was known for running an after-school clown club at Lakewood High School as per KKTV.
In addition to his work at the schools, Martinez is also associated with a religious organization. He is a pastor at Breakthrough Ministries in Dacono, a detail confirmed by police investigations. Following his arrest on August 16 during a supposed meetup, Martinez denied having an inappropriate relationship with the student, as reported by KDVR.
The Jeffco Police Department believes that there may be more individuals who have experienced similar misconduct at the hands of the former school employee. They are urging any other potential victims to come forward as they continue to investigate the breadth of Martinez's alleged misconduct over his years in positions of both secular and spiritual authority.
