The Fort Worth Spinks Airport, after 36 years of operations, is bracing for a future of growth with a new master plan, set to go before the City Council for adoption on Tuesday, August 13. Designed to guide city leaders in adequately allocating resources within the Aviation Department, the master plan not only creates a framework for development but also ensures projects align with federal and state funding eligibility criteria, as reported by the City of Fort Worth.

The plan emerges as a necessary step since the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommends updating such documents every seven to 10 years, Spinks Airport’s existing master plan has been untouched since 2004, it is in response to continuing shifts in aviation dynamics and economic demands of North Texas. The ongoing process received financial support through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation in 2022, leading to the selection of KSA Engineers Inc. as the consultants for this crucial project.

A Planning Advisory Committee, composed of airport tenants, pilots, local businesses, members from TxDOT’s Aviation Division, and various City department representatives, was imposed to shepherd the plan to completion, with inputs from the City's Aviation Advisory Board which culminated in a published proposal after five public meetings aimed at gathering community opinions and suggestions.
