A fourth suspect has been apprehended and charged in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred last year on Swiss Lane. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Moses Deshaun Reed, faces capital murder charges for the death of 59-year-old Anthony Merchant, who was found unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds outside his residence, according to a recent press release by the City of Houston.
Reed, who is presently detained on unrelated charges, had his role in the June 2022 shooting cemented by charges filed in the 339th State District Court. Following the investigation led by HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Watson and detectives, two other suspects, Shane Henry and Christian Miller, had previously been charged. Found by officers dispatched to the scene, the victim was transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake and was pronounced deceased there.
Initial investigative efforts identified Shane Henry, a 20-year-old man, and Christian Miller—who was 16 at the time of the shooting—as suspects. Both are also facing capital murder charges, with Henry's information being released to the public, while Miller, as a minor when the incident occurred, had his information withheld.
Further investigation identified two juvenile suspects, who were referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation. On March 15, Miller was certified as an adult and transferred to Harris County Jail. This expanded the investigation, which later also involved Reed. The suspect fled before officers arrived, sealing Mr. Merchant's fate.
Reed's recent arrest contributes to the ongoing legal process for the previously detained suspects. With the fourth suspect now in custody, authorities are getting closer to resolving this case.
