An 82-year-old Freeport man was tragically killed yesterday in a small plane crash in Brazoria County, Texas. The solo pilot, identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety as Howard Autrey, encountered his fatal end when his aircraft descended abruptly into a field of private property, according to a report from KHOU.

Details surrounding the crash have been sparse, but the incident was first reported around 6:30 p.m and, occurred near the crossing of County Road 461 and County Road 416. The site is roughly five miles away from the city of Brazoria, in the proximity of the San Bernard River. Autrey, the lone individual aboard the plane, could not survive the impact.

While little is known about the circumstances leading to the crash, Houston Public Media has reported that the Federal Aviation Administration has been alerted and will likely spearhead the investigation into the crash. The Texas Department of Public Safety, which confirmed there were no additional passengers, has yet to release further specifics of the accident.
