A routine traffic stop by a deputy from Constable Mark Herman's Office on July 30 resulted in the arrest of a wanted fugitive in Harris County. The incident, which took place on the 900 block of FM 1960 Road West, saw the apprehension of Gerald Smith after a deputy conducted the stop, according to a social media post by the Constable's Office.
Upon further investigation during the traffic stop, it was discovered that Smith had an outstanding felony warrant from New Jersey. Smith, whose details at the time of the check resulted in the revelation of his wanted status, was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail.
As is protocol, Constable Mark Herman's Office was succinct in its public communication about the incident. "Gerald Smith was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail for the open warrant. His bond an court information have not been set at this time," Herman's statement read. The future proceedings and potential extradition to New Jersey remain in the balance as the justice system prepares to advance Smith's case through the appropriate channels.
