
A tragic incident unfolded in Montgomery Village yesterday when a 21-year-old Gaithersburg man lost his life to gun violence; authorities responded to a shooting reported on Club House Road, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.
The shooting occurred Monday, August 12, 2024, around 11:38 a.m., and when Montgomery County Police officers arrived on the scene, they found the young man with gunshot wounds but despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the location of the incident, this news was gathered from the MCPD's press statement.
Detectives from the MCPD Major Crimes – Homicide Division took over the investigation, speaking with witnesses and combing the area for evidence; the investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Oliver Alexis Perez Fierro of Montgomery Village, identified as the potential assailant.
Shortly after the crime took place Perez Fierro was taken into custody transported to the Public Safety Headquarters with a search warrant for his residence executed, where they found items that could be linked to the homicide, Fierro is now facing charges of first-degree murder and the use of a handgun in the commission of a felony as per the announcement by the police department, and he is now awaiting a bond hearing while being held at the Central Processing Unit.
Officials have noted that this troubling occurrence appears to be an isolated event, restricted to the dealings between the two men involved; the ongoing investigation might shed more light on the motivations behind the confrontation. The name of the deceased is expected to be released soon, following proper notification of the next of kin; authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward as the investigation is still active.
