Starting from today at 8 a.m., the bridge on Mial Plantation Road will be out of service for a two-week span, officials from the N.C. Department of Transportation confirmed. The aim is to give the bridge a much-needed facelift, with repairs set to wrap up by August 26 at 5 a.m., weather permitting.
The list of updates includes concrete deck repair, epoxy overlay, bridge deck grooving, and, top it all off with a bit of asphalt paving for good measure. This isn't just routine maintenance, it's a full-on intervention for a bridge that's clearly showing its age and use. As noted by the NCDOT press release, the idea is to extend the bridge’s life span, ensuring it remains safe and serviceable for years to come.
For those heading north, detour signs will redirect you via Old Baucom Road, then onto Rock Quarry Road, swing a left to Auburn Knightdale Road, hop onto Grasshopper Road, and finally Bethlehem Road to get back on track to Mial Plantation Road. Southbound traffic gets the reverse treatment, using Bethlehem Road, and all aforementioned roads, in reverse order to skirt the closed bridge.
