An officer-involved shooting in Dodge County is currently under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), following an incident that resulted in the death of a resident. According to the GBI's official statement, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office called for their assistance after the lethal confrontation in Eastman, Georgia.
The GBI's initial findings indicate that the episode unfolded on the morning of August 27, when a deputy went to investigate a 911 call concerning farm animals obstructing traffic at the intersection of Dodge Ave. and Mt. Moriah St. Upon attempting to quickly make contact with local residents at a nearby address, the deputy was met by 58-year-old Kim Lawong Crocker. Reports state that both the deputy and Crocker were armed and, for reasons yet to be fully understood, gunfire was exchanged between the two.
The incident left Crocker dead at the scene and the deputy injured by a gunshot to the arm. The GBI is investigating and asks anyone with information to contact their Regional Investigative Office in Eastman. Please come forward if you have any details.
This investigation is active and ongoing. Once complete, it will be given to the Oconee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
