Georgia's ecosystem and economic vitality gets a stewardship shuffle as Governor Brian P. Kemp names Johnny Sabo the new Director and State Forester of the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC). Taking the reins on September 1, Sabo is stepping up following Tim Lowrimore's upcoming resignation announced for September 15. The decision came after a unanimous vote by the GFC Board which concluded on August 27, a move dignifying the importance of forestry to the state, Gov. Kemp told officials.

Johnny Sabo brings two decades of forest service experience from Florida to his new role managing Georgia's foliage. Before being appointed as the Deputy Director of GFC in April 2023, Johnny dedicated himself to the Florida Forest Service. He's managing now the Forest Management, Forest Protection, and Law Enforcement departments along with supervising operations across five regional divisions in Georgia. He also holds a bachelor's degree in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University, making him an educated choice for Georgia's ecological vitality. Sabo's credentials, accented by his position on the Georgia Forestry Foundation Board of Trustees and the Sentinel Landscape Executive Committee, affirm the trust placed on his shoulders.

"I know Johnny will continue the good work of the GFC, ensuring the success of our forestry industry," Governor Kemp assured with confidence in Sabo's ability to lead. "As the No. 1 forestry state in the nation, Georgia and its forests depend on GFC for a multitude of services," he added, underlining the GFC's critical role in safeguarding the state's verdant assets. Kemp's endorsement reflects both a promise for continuity and an anticipation of dynamic governance under Sabo.

Georgia, threading its way through economic progress and environmental conservation, continues to spotlight the symbiosis between nature and industry. While Sabo takes charge of the GFC's diverse operations, his presence on the Georgia Forestry Foundation Board of Trustees and the Georgia Sentinel Landscape Executive Committee will likely synergize efforts to maintain Georgia's stature as a forestry leader. With a paradigm of leadership redefined, the GFC under Sabo's guide is set to meet the manifold demands levied upon it. Johnny, together with Christina and their son, resides in Macon, perching them firmly within the state's verdant embrace.
