Bad news for bikers and joggers who frequent the Germantown Greenway—a critical bridge is out of commission. Starting Wednesday, August 21, the bridge at Houston Levee Park has been shuttered for repairs, and it's unclear when it will reopen. While assessments are underway to determine the extent of the damage, the actual repair work won't kick off until sometime this fiscal year, according to the City of Germantown's official announcement.
If you want to hit the trails, don’t worry—there’s an alternative. You can access the Greenway through Johnson Road Park, which is a nearby detour. Most of the Greenway is still open, but Houston Levee users will need to be patient while repairs are made. For more information or to voice concerns, call the parks department at 757-7375.
The cost of repairs and the exact cause of the damage are still unknown. While it could be due to regular wear or more serious issues, the city says "repair assessments are currently underway." Safety is a priority, and though the reopening timeline is uncertain, Germantown officials are working to restore safe passage as quickly as they can, as per the city's official announcement.
In the meantime, residents can check out the greenery at other local spots while waiting for their beloved bridge to return to its former glory. For updates and additional information, you can visit Germantown's website.
