The Town of Gilbert is calling on its residents to come together in observance of a solemn occasion as they host their annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. Set for the evening of September 11, the event will commence at 6:30 p.m., at the 9/11 Memorial Plaza located at 50 E. Civic Center Drive in Gilbert, AZ. The event is not only an opportunity to honor the almost 3,000 lives lost during the tragic events of September 11, 2001, but also a chance to pay homage to the scores of brave first responders who rushed into peril.
According to a release on the town's official website, Gilbert's 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will feature organizations pivotal to community safety, including Gilbert Fire and Rescue and the Gilbert Police Department. The ceremony is a physical manifestation of the collective remembrance, etched in the not just minds of Gilbert's residents, but also in the heart of the nation at large. Post-ceremony activities will light up the sky from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. with a "Tribute in Light," beacons that represent a visual echo of the Twin Towers once standing tall at the World Trade Center site.
The ceremony, beyond being a retrospective, serves as a catalyst for action. The spirit of community that surged in the wake of 9/11's devastation lives on through service and volunteerism. In cohesion with the National Day of Service, citizens of Gilbert are encouraged to find and engage with local opportunities for service happening on the day, or to pre-empt the spirit of giving by signing up for the next volunteer event slated for Saturday, September 14, at 7:30 a.m.
For those interested in participating in the day's events or seeking out future community service opportunities, can find more information or sign up through the Town of Gilbert's website. This year's 9/11 Memorial Ceremony is not just a pause for reflection—it's a call to remember that from the ashes of tragedy can rise a strengthened community, committed to service, remembrance, and unity.
