The city of Goodyear has tallied the votes from its July 30 primary with three City Council seats on the line. As it stands, the top contenders are Trey Terry, Laura Kaino, and Benita Beckles, who are in a position to claim the seats if their lead holds beyond the majority threshold of 6,458 votes. According to the City of Goodyear's unofficial election results, Terry leads with 8,360 votes (21.58%), followed by Kaino with 7,975 votes (20.59%), and Beckles with 6,736 votes (17.39%).
The current unofficial vote tallies for the other candidates, are less promising, with Teri Roberts at 6,479 votes (16.73%), Tamara Floyd with 4,980 votes (12.86%), and Angie Amarillas rounding out the count at 4,207 votes (10.86%). These numbers may yet dance and sway with the complete count as the Maricopa County Elections Department continues to process ballots, including those dropped off on election day itself.
Anyone looking to keep abreast of the shifting sands of this electoral landscape can find the most current updates on the Maricopa County Elections Department's website. The final results, which will cement the makeup of Goodyear's City Council for the next term beginning January 1, 2025, are expected to be confirmed sometime next week. As these are just preliminary figures, the possibility remains that late-arriving ballots could influence the final outcome, particularly for candidates hovering close to that majority line.
