Texas Governor Greg Abbott has teamed up with various entities to kick-off a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop set for August 27 in Mexia. The initiative, which promotes the economic benefits of the music industry, is a partnership between the Texas Music Office (TMO), the City of Mexia, the Mexia Economic Development Corporation, and Mexia Downtown. Governor Abbott highlighted the economic impact that music has in the Lone Star State, saying, "Music is key to the Texas brand and to our local economies," as reported by Office of the Texas Governor website.

The upcoming workshop, which aims to endow communities with a certification showing they are committed to music industry growth, marks the beginning of the process for Mexia. According to the Governor's office, the program created by TMO boasts more than 192,000 direct and indirect jobs tied to the Texas music scene and generates over $26 billion yearly. Inappropriately emphasized during the announcement, the importance of creative partnerships and new job growth was thanked by Governor Abbott to the Texas Music Office for its role in nurturing.

Functions of the workshop include detailing the Music Friendly Texas Community designation perks and addressing questions from attendees. Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will lead the discussion. The certification process is said to communicate to industry professionals that designated cities like Mexia are serious contenders for music industry expansion. Currently, 63 other Texas cities hold the Music Friendly Texas label, with Mexia on track to join their ranks.

Open to the public, including musicians and venue operators, the workshop offers the community an opportunity to engage at no cost. Set in the Mexia Economic Development Corporation boardroom at 214 Sherman Street, onlookers can also attend this inaugural event virtually.
