In the heart of Grand Prairie, a sculptor by the name of Joaquin Soto utilizes his craft as a tool for societal change, specifically targeting mental health awareness. Soto's latest exhibit, "Diffusing The Stigma", is currently taking center stage at the historic Uptown Theater, to shine a light on mental health in communities of color. This venue isn't just a stage for Soto's art, it holds significance as the first memory he has upon arriving in the United States as an immigrant at age 7, according to the City of Grand Prairie.
"Having my own exhibit here at The Uptown is full-circle, it's breathtaking just to have this opportunity", Soto shared, as per the City of Grand Prairie. The art on display includes pieces crafted from scrap metal, a material that Soto feels resonates with the human condition.
Soto is set to take his engagement with the audience a step further at the closing reception. This event, scheduled for August 29th at 6:00 p.m. at the Uptown Theater, will not only showcase his art but will also feature Soto discussing his mission and story. A deep dive into the struggles and triumphs that have shaped his journey, and his advocacy for dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health, the reception offers a unique opportunity for attendees to participate in the dialogue.
