The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has scheduled a full closure of the 54th Avenue overpass at Interstate 5 from Aug. 23 to Aug. 26. The closure, part of a project to extend the life of the overpass and improve travel conditions for commuters, will affect routes from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
During this period, the overpass will be inaccessible to traffic. Moreover, the northbound I-5 exit to 54th Avenue and the corresponding on-ramp will be closed. Commuters depending on southbound I-5 ramps will face restrictions, though the ramp from southbound 54th Avenue will remain open. This coordinated closure is designed to facilitate a substantial amount of work in a relatively short timeline, weather permitting.
According to WSDOT's announcement, the aim of this renovation is to offer travelers a smoother and more reliable drive, reducing the need for frequent maintenance. Real-time traffic updates can be accessed using the WSDOT app or by checking the statewide travel map.
