The Hernando County Sheriff's Office has issued a public appeal for assistance in locating an absconded sexual offender named Stephen Edward Wynn, who has breached his reporting requirements according to a statement released by the sheriff's office. The statement describes Wynn as a white male, born on June 7, 1967, with grey hair and blue eyes, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighing 210 pounds.
Previously arrested on August 8, 2024, for failing to comply with sex offender reporting requirements, Wynn was released two days later on August 10, his subsequent removal of an ankle monitor on August 11 has prompted concerns from law enforcement officials about his whereabouts, Wynn reportedly left his place of residence in Brooksville around 4 p.m., and is believed to have absconded. He was last seen driving a 2014 gray Jeep Patriot with a Florida tag IZ93ES, which belongs to a family member.
Authorities have also disclosed that prior to his disappearance, Wynn withdrew a significant amount of money from a bank. This information has added an urgent note to the search, as it suggests Wynn may be planning to avoid capture for an extended period. The Sheriff's Office has provided contact information for anyone who might have relevant details regarding his current location.
Stephen Wynn's criminal background includes a 2019 conviction in Stark County, North Dakota, for gross sexual imposition and sexual battery on an adult victim with aggravating circumstances, a conviction which necessitated his registration as a sex offender in the state of Florida alongside strict compliance requirements.
