Seven U.S. Air Force Airmen from Nellis Air Force Base were recognized for their bravery following a flash flood rescue at Zion National Park, where they saved a pregnant woman and others from treacherous waters earlier this August. According to a report by 8 News Now, the airmen were hiking when they noticed signs of the approaching flood and quickly reacted to guide the group to higher ground.

Among those rescued was a woman, found "battered, blue, and lifeless," said Airman 1st Class Will Martin, who managed to withstand the strong current and, along with Airman Demarcus Norman, pulled her to safety; she remained unresponsive for almost an hour, as the rescue team waited for further help according to Nellis Air Force Base. It was on the journey toward a suitable location for air evacuation that the woman disclosed her pregnancy and introduced the rest of her group, which included an injured man stranded on the opposite side of the river, a situation demanding a human chain formation by the airmen to facilitate his crossing said the chain formation made possible by the linked arms of Airmen, who pieced together solidarity and strength, as per 8 News Now.

Their commendable efforts culminated in a coining ceremony on August 26, during which the Airmen were lauded for their unwavering commitment to the Air Force's core values. In a statement obtained by KTNV, Air Force officials praised them for embodying "Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence In All We Do." The honored servicemen included Airman 1st Class Will Martin, Airman 1st Class Demarcus Norman, Airman 1st Class Maximos Olade, Airman 1st Class Jacob Stillwell, Airman 1st Class Rony Lopez-Aguilar, Airman Andres Parra, and Airman Christopher Reyes.
