Chaos erupted in the quiet streets of American Canyon last Friday night as two vehicles engaged in a dangerous display of recklessness that swiftly escalated into a high-speed chase. The American Canyon Police Department responded to a call at approximately 10:00 p.m. regarding two cars performing stunts in the intersection of Knightsbridge and Chaucer Lane, reported the department on their Facebook page.

As officers approached the scene, they spotted a black Infiniti, allegedly one of the involved cars, and the pursuit began. It unfolded just north of the City on Mini Drive and Highway 29 when the sighted vehicle, instead of yielding, accelerated away, reaching speeds upward of 80 miles per hour. The chase concluded promptly — the Infiniti met its demise against a curb at the intersection of Mini Drive and Lewis Brown in Vallejo.

The driver, a 19-year-old Benicia resident named Avant Bruce, exited his crumpled vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was soon apprehended by the authorities. An ensuing search revealed that Bruce’s ride was not his own. The Infiniti was reported stolen out of Richmond. Beyond the ill-gotten wheels, officers discovered a cache of burglary tools, menacing brass knuckles, and illegal hallucinogenic substances.

After his arrest, Bruce was carted to the Napa County Department of Corrections, charged with a litany of offenses springing from that fateful evening's events. As of this morning, the reports indicated that the young man was held in lieu of $100,000 bail, awaiting the due process accorded by the law, the department disclosed.
