After a fatal collision involving two pickups, Highway 18 in McMinnville has been cleared and reopened, following several hours of closure that disrupted traffic and prompted an extensive response from public safety teams. The tragic incident occurred yesterday afternoon and claimed the life of one individual while leaving another with serious injuries, confirmed local authorities.
The event unfolded at 3:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet Colorado pickup, journeying eastbound, veered across the median and met, head-on, with a GMC Sierra pickup that was towing a flatbed trailer. The piercing impact was offset, with the ferocity of the collision concentrating on the front passenger sides of both vehicles, KPTV reported.
McMinnville police have yet to release the identity of the deceased victim, awaiting to perform the solemn duty of notifying the family, KATU detailed. The survivor of the crash was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries described as serious.
As a result of the crash, a stretch of Highway 18 near the Norton Lane intersection was closed to traffic for approximately three and a half hours. It was later reported that the highway had been reopened at around 7 p.m., relieving traffic congestion and allowing the flow of vehicles to resume normally, KOIN shared. The accident prompted an investigation by the local authorities, who are working to determine the specific causes and circumstances that led to the tragedy.
