Hillsborough County Solid Waste is extending a lifeline to seniors and low-income residents with an extended deadline for waste fee discounts. The latest board decision, passed on August 21, offers a financial reprieve by prolonging the application period for the discounts until October 1, according to the recent announcement from the Hillsborough County.
These discounts apply to annual solid waste assessment fees, and, eligible residents may see these reductions reflected in their 2025 tax bill. Seniors, for instance, they stand to benefit from a 33% or 35% discount on disposal fees, depending on their living situation. For the Hardship/Affordability Credit Program, intended low-income homeowner applicants can find solace in a $68 discount, which comprises a $53 disposal fee credit and a $15 collection fee credit. This aid is directly applied to the solid waste fees on the annual property tax bill..
Homeowners must submit their applications with all required documentation by the new deadline of October 1 to take advantage of the credit program. Similarly, seniors seeking to access their discounts must also file their applications by this extended deadline.
Those who have successfully applied for such financial assistance in the past must reapply annually to continue receiving benefits in the future. Further information and application details can be obatined from the county's official communication.
