As the call for nominations continues, the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners is once again shining a spotlight on local youth who are making strides and effecting change in their communities. The Youth Excellence and Achievement Awards (YEA! Awards), an annual tradition since 2010, are in the process of selecting those outstanding young individuals who exhibit exceptional leadership, overcome challenging odds, and dedicate themselves to volunteerism and community service.

The YEA! Awards are an opportunity to celebrate students from middle and high school who have left an indelible mark on their communities through their various contributions. According to information obtained by the Hillsborough County, there are three distinct categories in which students can be acknowledged: leadership, success despite difficult odds, and volunteer or community service. Former recipients often carry the honor of a YEA! Award with them long after the ceremony's conclusion. Nominations are welcome until September 12, as reported, giving community members ample time to highlight students who showcase the determination and spirit these awards were designed to commend.

Every year, the YEA! Awards make an effort to ensure that the broad spectrum of youth success and resilience is given its due attention. Families have shared heartening stories of past victors, showcasing how such recognition has bolstered self-esteem and catalyzed further commitments to community service and leadership.
