A 20-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 71-year-old man in a case that has developed over the course of nearly two months. Houston Police Department (HPD) announced the developments in the stabbing death that occurred at 2009 Colquitt Street on July 2, a crime that initially presented few leads and a suspect description.
According to the City of Houston's news release, the suspect, identified as Alexis Maria Miller, was charged with murder and appeared in the 230th State District Court. Miller, apprehended by officers with the HPD Crime Reduction Unit, was arrested without incident on August 23 and has since been booked into the Harris County Jail. HPD has since released a booking photo of Miller connected to the case.
The tragic incident first unfolded when officers were called to the scene for a report of a deceased person. Upon arrival, they discovered Christos Simopoulos with multiple stab wounds inside an apartment. Despite their efforts, paramedics pronounced Simopoulos dead at the scene, as was later recounted by HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Dunn and Detectives L. Brooks and K. Stringer.
With new evidence surfacing, authorities were able to finally conclude their search for a suspect. It was on August 20 that a breakthrough came, promptly to result in murder charges being filed against Miller. The swift action followed this development by the HPD Crime Reduction Unit, which arrested the suspect just a few days later.
