Early morning commuters in Houston witnessed a grim scene yesterday as police were called to the 9800 block of Telephone Road at 5:20 a.m. where a pedestrian had been fatally struck by a vehicle. The Houston Police Department is actively investigating the incident that left one man dead, whose identity remains unknown pending further examination by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer L. Ho are handling the case and according to their report, the male pedestrian was inadvertently walking in a moving lane of traffic when he was hit by a southbound red Ford Explorer the driver of the Ford stopped immediately and cooperated with authorities at the scene. Following the accident, first responders from the Houston Fire Department pronounced the man deceased.
The 46-year-old male driver of the Explorer was not found to be impaired following preliminary inspections conducted by the authorities. After questioning, he was released as standard procedure while the investigation continues to piece together the circumstances of the incident. No charges have been filed at this time—information that was detailed in the official release by the City of Houston.
