
A late-night hit-and-run in Houston's Westchase area has left a police officer hospitalized, following a collision involving a driver who allegedly ran a red light and subsequently fled the scene. According to FOX26 Houston, the incident took place around 11:09 p.m. yesterday when the female officer was driving southbound on West Sam Houston Parkway in response to a call.
At the intersection with Richmond Avenue, as the officer passed through on a green light, a blue Tahoe traveling westbound struck her vehicle which led to significant implications, Sgt. Richards with the Houston Police Department told FOX26 Houston. Following the collision, the suspect driving the Tahoe vacated the area leaving the vehicle behind at a nearby apartment complex.
ABC13 reports add that the officer's emergency lights were activated, though her sirens were not, at the time of the accident. Houston Police authorities are now putting efforts into locating the driver who, upon identification, will face failure to stop and render aid charges. The officer, whose identity has yet to be released, was transported to the hospital in stable condition, authorities confirmed her prognosis is favorable for a recovery.
