Authorities in Houston are piecing together the circumstances of a tragic shooting at a residence in the city's suburbs, which left one woman dead and a man seriously injured in what is being called an attempted suicide. The incident occurred yesterday at approximately 4:10 p.m. at 5203 Ridgestone Lane, according to a statement from the Houston Police Department.
The identity of the deceased, a 44-year-old woman, has yet to be confirmed by the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner's Office. The 43-year-old male suspect was rushed to an area hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. In an assault-in-progress call that brought HPD patrol officers to the scene, a family member had alerted them to the man and woman inside the home who required assistance.
Upon officers' entry into the home, they discovered the woman and the male suspect in a back bedroom. The initial findings reported by HPD Homicide Division Detectives P. Michon and C. Davidson indicated, "The woman had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and the suspect had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound." Both individuals were transported by Life Flight helicopter to the hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead, as detailed by the City of Houston.
The investigation is still ongoing. Meanwhile, the Houston Police Department is encouraging anyone with information related to the case to step forward. They may contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at a 713-222-TIPS number.
