In the early hours of August 17, two vehicles collided at the intersection of South Las Vegas Boulevard and East Pyle Avenue, resulting in one fatality and another driver facing serious legal repercussions. The incident marks the city's 93rd traffic-related death for the year.
The LVMPD release details the moment a northbound Nissan Rogue, operated by an as-yet-unidentified 65-year-old male, found its path intersected by a Jeep Grand Cherokee; its driver, 48-year-old Walter Quijano of Las Vegas, allegedly made an abrupt and improper turn, initiating the deadly encounter, which led to the Nissan's driver losing his life and Quijano, bearing only minor injuries, was later taken into custody on DUI charges that included resulting in death, this event unfolded amidst the hushed glow of casino lights, now casting long shadows over the narratives we hold around chance, luck, and the unfortunate roll of the dice.
