Residents and commuters around Bryn Mawr may have noticed the site of construction crews working diligently along the sidewalks. According to a recent project update, Michels Corporation, a contractor authorized by CenterPoint Energy, is on the move with a new phase of its natural gas main installation project. The team is set to complete their current work under the east sidewalk of Upton Avenue S. between Chestnut Avenue and Laurel Avenue by the coming Monday.
Pending the whims of the weather and the current pace of progress, the workers are planning to commence their work on Thomas Avenue S. starting Tuesday, August 13. The effort, consistent with the city's infrastructure modernization initiatives, will extend from Chestnut Avenue south toward Laurel Avenue. To smooth the way for traffic, parking will be restricted on both sides of the street where the crew is operating, starting each weekday at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 6:00 p.m.
Such work often brings with it a mix of inconvenience and necessity, balancing the present disturbance with future utility safety and reliability. The company has made provisions for questions and concerns that residents might have. As noted on their official statement, CenterPoint Energy invites inquiries, directing them to their Communication Specialist at 612-321-5546 or via email to [email protected].
Amidst the unavoidable disruption, CenterPoint Energy has expressed gratitude for the community's patience. “We appreciate your patience as we’re upgrading our infrastructure. We wish you a great season!” reads the statement on their website. As summer gives way to the whispers of fall, such infrastructure projects are a stark reminder of the city's constant evolution and the unseen latticework that powers our daily lives.
